Our Approach

Investment Management

Many decisions go into building a solid investment portfolio, one that will help you achieve your goals while letting you sleep at night. A solid portfolio should make you feel comfortable that:

  • Every single dollar is invested in something that you understand
  • You’re not paying more in taxes, commissions, or fees than is absolutely necessary
  • You are on your way to achieving your financial goals without taking on more risk

We know that in a well-constructed portfolio each investment should fulfill a specific function and should be right for your personal situation. As fee-only advisors we provide objective and unbiased recommendations you need to make informed decisions. At Westchase Financial Planning, we:

  • Thoroughly discuss your goals before making any recommendations
  • Look at the financial risks you are already taking before determining your appropriate level of investment risk
  • Review all your accounts to determine your appropriate asset allocation and asset location (which investments should be in which accounts)
  • Recommend real estate exposure you need to achieve long-term financial stability
  • Integrate tax planning with your investment strategy to ensure that more of your money works for you

Tax Planning & Prep

Filing income tax returns is difficult and time-consuming. Not only that, but tax season is the worst time to find out that your tax liability could have been less “if I had done things differently.” At Westchase Financial Planning, our goal is to ensure that each client pays the legal amount to the IRS, and not a penny more. Not only will we do your tax return, but we will:

  • Review previous returns for missed deductions
  • Prepare amended returns if you are owed a refund by the IRS
  • Incorporate tax efficiency into your financial planning to minimize future tax liability

Estate Planning

Estate planning is more than making a will. Depending on the complexity of your situation, estate planning can involve:

  • Guardian for minor children
  • Special needs situations
  • Medical directive and other end-of-life considerations
  • Bequests to charities
  • Strategies to minimize estate and gift taxes.

We are not attorneys and cannot write a will for you. But we can discuss matters with you so that when you do consult an attorney you will have already considered many important issues. We will:

  • Discuss with you estate issues that are pertinent to your financial situation and how they will affect your beneficiaries
  • Monitor beneficiary designations for your accounts and retirement plans
  • Monitor your executor/trustee/guardian choices
  • Enable you to make informed choices that can then be implemented with your attorney

Retirement Planning

Planning for your retirement goes far beyond your investment portfolio. You need to plan how you would like to live when you stop working. When we discuss retirement planning, we go far beyond "your number." We discuss your goals and values. This way, your money and time are spent on the things that matter most. The sooner you start, the easier it is to match your cashflow to your lifestyle goals.

Additional Services

We also provide other financial planning services, goal setting, cash management and insurance reviews.

A good financial plan will help you get to where you want to go, but you need to know where you want to go before the planning starts. We help you think about your goals with in-depth conversations about what retirement looks like to you, what you want for your family, community, or charity, as well as other important life goals.

Do you know where you money goes each month? We can help you find out and then make sure your money is helping you reach your goals.

Your home is probably your single largest investment and your mortgage is probably your single largest debt. We advise about getting the right-size home for your income, the right-size mortgage to fit your cash flow and refinancing options to lower your monthly payments.
